This is a complicated question by the way. In general, most hospice patients experience anywhere from six months to two years of hospice care before they pass away.
If you aren’t sure whether or not this applies to your situation, talk to your medical and healthcare professionals about the average time in hospice care for similar patients with similar diagnoses. I recommend to read carefully hospice how long https://myallamericanhospice.com/long-will-hospice-care-last/

I know that a doctor has to testify that a patient has six months or less to live. I also have seen patients referred very late like they have a few weeks or days to live. My husband asked for hospice and I contacted the one I used to work at. We got hospice the day before he died. Hospital bed, bedside commode delivered on Sunday afternoon. He died 3:30 Monday morning. We also had some patients who improved and were discharged from hospice. And, we had people who declined in health, still qualified for hospice by objective criteria that lived a year or longer.
